The construction of the redevelopment project for the Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, Mangiagalli, and Regina Elena area is nearing completion; a project by a JV with Techint Spa as the lead partner, along with other renowned professionals including Boeri Studio with Arch. Giovanni La Varra; the Policlinico is among the city's main hospitals: a healthcare citadel where various services are housed in separate buildings connected mostly by outdoor paths.

The New Policlinico project introduces a large “container” into the central area, the Central Building, which integrates the medical/surgical and maternal/child departments. This building consists of a pair of linear structures, intended for inpatient areas and clinics, measuring 121 x 26 meters in floor plan and rising to the maximum allowed height of 28 meters, with facades composed of unitized elements of variable geometry in different shades of gray; the inclusion of special vertical colored glass “fins” allows the variability of natural light to be harnessed to create continuous and shimmering vibrations on the facades.

To these buildings is added a central body, approximately 18.50 meters high and with a maximum depth of 68 meters, which houses the operating blocks and the delivery/labor rooms; a lush roof garden of over 7,000 square meters is planned on its roof. This structure features a facade formed by a second skin of perforated and press-bent metal sheets in various shapes, superimposed on the primary cladding.

Studio_Cattivelli_ing_Fausto, on behalf of the lead contractor Palaser Srl, coordinated specialist professionals for the various performance aspects of the curtain walls, the static calculation and thermal shock verification of the glass, and the complex static calculation of the differently shaped perforated sheets.
