5 November 2025Conservative restoration project of the former factory complex Leumann
The former Leumann real estate complex consists of a series of distinct, multi-storey buildings, with current uses ranging from commercial to tertiary for offices; The origin of the village dates back to 1875 when the Swiss entrepreneurs Leumann moved the textile business, started around the middle of the century in another location, to the territory of Collegno; the need to use the expert workers already in their employ led to the construction of not only the factory but also a housing complex, expanded starting from 1902 according to the design of the engineer Pietro Fenoglio. The uniqueness of the preserved building heritage and the related program make the area one of the main sites of the Ecomuseum of material culture of the Province of Torino. In recent years, various recovery interventions have been carried out, subject to protection under Legislative Decree 42/2004 Code of Cultural Heritage and Landscape, most recently the small buildings of the former Leumann Factory named E, H, I and L, already subject to changes in use over the past years as part of various recovery and enhancement interventions, still owned by the Company Unity R.E. S.p.A. of Reggio Emilia. the intervention by the designer engineer Pierluigi Facta of Studio Associato Essepiesse of Turin, involved the conservative restoration of the complex, providing for the installation of new thermally broken steel window frames with low-emissivity double glazing and internal glazing bars, inserted into the existing wall openings which underwent restoration and rehabilitation by the construction company.
Studio Cattivelli/Scai-Tech was commissioned by the client Unity for the technical-qualitative and performance analysis activities during the tender phase for the window and door frame lot, and technical supervision during production with laboratory tests on the frames and during the installation of the works on site for control and functional testing operations; at the end of September 2025, following various quality controls and on-site tightness tests, the main testing operations were concluded, with remaining activities to be completed.
