The restoration and enhancement project of the historic garden of the Botanical Garden of the University of Parma represents a strategic intervention of protection and innovation, financed by the European Union as part of the #PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) – “Programs to enhance the identity of places: historic parks and gardens”. The initiative focuses on the landscape and botanical components, while the architectural heritage will be the subject of a parallel project. The Botanical Garden, located in the heart of the city, is a place of very high environmental, scientific, and historical-naturalistic value: for this reason, all interventions are carried out under the high supervision of the Garden's Management and qualified restorers.

The greenhouse was designed by Studio A+C architettura e città studio associato of Architects Paola Cavallini & Stefano Della Santa, the works were entrusted to the company Barcore S.r.l. and the subcontracting for the greenhouse envelope to the company Technologica s.r.l.. Studio Cattivelli/SCAI Tech was commissioned by this latter company, in the person of its manager Cattivelli Fausto, for the technical report concerning: the verification and identification of interventions to improve water tightness and reduce condensation formation in the roofing partition of the intervention, verifications which were followed by water tightness tests using instrumentation from the notified institute IRCCOS S.r.l.. Great attention is paid to sustainability, the materials used comply with the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM) and the design solutions prioritize quality, durability, and efficiency.

The new greenhouse represents one of the most innovative elements of the restoration and enhancement project of the Botanical Garden, which includes: roofing with steel profiles from the #Jansen VISS TVS series and Plexiglas® Alltop SDP 16 sheets, which ensure high transparency, resistance, and condensation reduction, creating an ideal environment for the conservation and enhancement of cactus plants. This intervention is not just a restoration work, but an investment in the future: a concrete example of how collaboration between universities, professionals, and European institutions can restore value to cultural and natural heritage, making it accessible in a contemporary and inclusive way. The historic garden will thus return to being a meeting place between science, culture, and the community, strengthening the bond between Parma and its green identity.
